Joel Freimark hosts The Daily Guru, which is a simply produced talk show that gives recommendations and commentaries about musicians and songs, or anything along the music genre for that matter. In fact, it’s so simply produced that it’s boring. And I’m a massive music lover, always eager to learn more about this incredible art form. I, so badly, wanted to like this series.
Freimark clearly knows a ton of cool stuff about music and musicians. There is no problem with a lack of content in each episode. It’s that Freimark speaks a mile a second. Each episode is loaded with a ton of unnecessary hard cuts. And… there’s no music in the show. NO MUSIC!
Episode after episode, Freimark recommends song after song and he doesn’t give us even a tiny sample of the music for that song. I don’t understand why he doesn’t. It’s not like the musicians who own any of his recommended songs will come after him with breech of copyright. After all, he’s promoting them and recommending that his viewers listen and own these songs.
Once in a while, Freimark turns an episode into a history lesson about one musician or another. But no pictures of any of the musicians are inserted in the episodes. No music samples for any of the musicians are included either. Quelle surprise! All we get are hard, fast cuts of Freimark’s head and shoulders – cut after cut after cut, Freimark, Freimark, Freimark.

I have to give this show a totally squashed pumpkin. In its current state, it’s unwatchable. But, it has potential to be a great show with a few tweaks in the production. Hopefully, the producers of this series will give it the minor changes The Daily Guru needs in order to be a decently watchable program.

Star-ving stars David Faustino. You’ll remember him most as the son in “Married with children.” The premise of this show is designed around Faustino’s supposed pathetic life after the hit series “Married with children.” Episode one includes his TV dad, Ed O’Neil. Other episodes that follow continue to bring guest appearances from other successful stars of the “Married with children” series.
I don’t understand why someone as successful as Ed O’Neil would agree to play himself as such a jerk in such a jerky, jackass show. The jokes are not funny and for some reason Faustino finds it necessary for us to see his naked behind, episode after episode. And, speaking of episodes, each one is really the same. Faustino tries to revamp his acting career and fails miserably and so then he decides to take his life and he fails miserably at that too.

If this show is any reflection to his true real life, I can say he’s still going to continue to struggle to revamp his career. This series gets a fully splatted, totally squashed pumpkin.

The story takes place in Paris, although one doesn’t get to know that until much later into the series. The plot follows a man who is always on his own, yet never alone. He is being followed by some stranger who manages to see every move this man makes through cameras all over the city; on the streets, inside public washrooms, subways, everywhere.
This show is nominated, this year, for a Webby Award and I don’t know really know how to respond to that. I’m not sure why it is nominated, to be honest. The show has the same, flat plot each and every episode. A man we never get to know anything about is always walking the streets of Paris alone. Eventually in the episode he, again, finds out that someone is watching him on camera. Then the chase between him and the mystery camera man begins and ends… until next episode.
Episode 1 involves the man being watched in a public washroom. But more than that happens. Mysteriously, an invisible being enters the bathroom and flips the man on his back. I was instantly intrigued. I thought the show was going to move in a supernatural direction. But the story never entertains that angle of the plot again. We never get to know who flipped that man in the public bathroom. It certainly wasn’t the ‘camera man’. So therefore, there must be someone else in the conspiracy. However, we never get know. It never comes back in the story again. Many parts of the plot get dropped like that and little to no information about any of the characters get revealed.

There are just too many holes in the plot and too many questions that never get answered. In spite of the Webby nomination, I still can’t give this show even half a squashed pumpkin. This series gets fully squashed.

The storyline of this show follows two friends, Hank and Alex, as they make a bet with each other to see if they both can survive living in New York city for an entire year while paying no rent. One decides to create a hidden bed, bunked under his cubical desk at work. The other somehow manages to convince a new girl each night to take him home.
Women will likely shake their heads wondering what’s so fucking funny about this show. In fact, it’s quite insulting. In one scene, Hank (the so called irresistible blond) is on a subway train when a very sleepy girl boards the same train, sits beside him, sleeps on his shoulder and in seconds is convinced to take him home to her house. Another episode finds Hank dealing with chlamydia which has him temporarily unable to seduce cute women to take him home each night. So, he spends the entire episode “celebrating” big women hoping that he can convince one of them to take him home. What!? (I shake my head) I thought we were past this kind of sexism.
Anyone who has any level of respect for women will want to stay well away from this show. There are much better shows to enjoy. Really!!!

If I could, I would double squash this pumpkin beyond recognizable pulp.

On the website for this series, a tag line displays under the title of the show, “A comedy about love and other terrible things.” I would argue to say that it’s simply about terrible things. Let’s see… the acting is terrible. The writing is terrible. The so called comedy is really terrible.
Bunny Hug is about two ex-lovers who still choose to live together for financial reasons. The premise has promise. But a subject matter like this requires highly skilled writing so that the “comedy” doesn’t come off as sounding corny or, in this case, depressing. This premise also requires strong acting talent between the two main characters so that the lines between them both are projected wittingly, not coldly. Such a premise requires direction that moves the show quickly, letting the lines between the two ex-lovers fly rapidly, yet lightly. A comedy series along this line is very difficult to do. Even great masters of the comedy craft don’t always get this kind of wit and pacing right. Bunny Hug most certainly doesn’t get it right.
Bunny Hug’s first episode focuses around a coffee pot that neither of the two ex-lovers can seem to make work. They stare at the coffee pot when she asks him if he had masturbated last night. After finding out he did, she gets jealous. Then they discover the coffee pot was unplugged and then they go to bed together. The end… of that episode. If you watch episode 2, you will just get more of the same eye rolling, irritating junk I just explained to you in this paragraph only with more uninteresting characters; their best friends.

I can say one nice thing about this show. I like the opening where the kids play with the bunny puppets. That part is fun. But still, this show gets a fully squashed pumpkin. Save your precious time to watch something else.

Barry Sobel hosts this online talk show which is designed to exist for the lapse of 3 minutes in total, not including the opening song which drives me crazy. It’s horrible and I can’t get it out of my head. It’s like a bad burp which leaves an awful taste in your mouth that puts you off of food all together for a while.
Fred Willard is Sobel’s sidekick. What a waste of great talent.
The show takes the same look and design that every talk show seems to takes: The couch and the desk with the “window” in the background. There is absolutely nothing unique about this show. They don’t even take advantage of the internet being uncensored. They are totally “TV Clean” and boring. It’s a pitch fest for new movies, books, etc, with nasty boring jokes. Tom Hanks is the guest of episode one and he is literally on the stage for less than one minute. The only plus to this show is that it is only 3 minutes long. Any longer watching it and I might have had to contemplate shooting myself.

This pumpkin gets a full squash! Stay far away.
